Wise Old Thumper
A lady on the gerbil forum i am on has had a second sudden death of her rabbits in 2 months. They are vaccinated against myxo and VHD. Just wondering if anyone on here could shed any light please. Here is the post:
Mouse a three year old Lionhead was perfectly well yesterday, she ate her tea at around 4pm. She was running about in the garden as usual (they all have free range). My husband went to check on them all and to give them supper about 10.30pm only to find her lathargic and cold. I went out to her, put her heating on full and put a hot water bottle under her. Her partner cuddled up to her as well. She was in the same state in the morning. I took her straight to the vet who put her on a drip and in an incubator. He phoned me a couple of hours later to say her gut was normal, her faeces, temperature, everything normal, but she was just like a ragdoll, no explanation. I spoke to the nurse about 2pm who said she had perked up a little and was moving about by herself and suggested I bring her partner in to sit with her for a while. But before I had the chance the vet phoned to say she had just passed away? Really doesn't know why?
The very same thing happened to my male lop Donkey about 2 months ago. He was also very fit and healthy.
I've cared for rabbits for over 20 years and have never lost them in this way before. Certainly without an explanation from a very competent vet.
Has this happened to anyone else. I'm worried about my remaining two bunnies now. Just don't know what it could be?
Thanks in advance
