  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

she needs some weight on her whats should her weight be??

Sunflower seeds can help put weight on. Junior pellets which are higher in protein than average pellets. A general increase in pellets, and more nutritious hay. Rolled oats (not quick or instant, just regular unflavoured oats).

Of course, whatever you do you're going to have to look at calcium content to minimise her intake.

thank you ..

the calcium content was what i was worried about, i red some where that if rabbits have suffered with stones then pellets shouldn't be given:?

i know about veg ie high calcium from when my guinea boar had stones.

but with rabbits is it the same of different...

the more i look at things the more i see that rabbits and guinea pigs diets etc are the same other than guineas need vit c...

and treatments that can be used in guinea pigs can also be used in rabbits???

It is to my understanding that cavies and rabbits can be prescribed the same prescription only medicines for a number of conditions. However, if you are referring to over the counter medicines, or natural remedies and therapies, it is to my understanding that these two species of animal will react very differently.

Naturally, in regards to increasing your rabbit's weight, please do this gradually. 'Fattening up' could have consequences for your rabbit's health in the future.
