  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fluff has bloat

Fluff was really quiet when I went out to see to him this morning and he was only eating a little but not drinking.

Took him to the vet and she said he had bloat, but doesn't know if it is a one off thing or if there is something else going on to cause it.

He did get caught by the neck in his cage on Saturday, but has been alright since then.

He was given some Zantac home, and something called BIRP solution, as well as the same things at the vet and some fluid under the skin.

He has been eating a little since we got back, but is really quiet. We are to go back tomorrow if he isn't back to normal.

Yeah, he's had painkillers. I think the BIRP solution is a painkiller of some sort? If not it was in some injection she gave him.

Thanks so much for asking about him .

He's scoffed his breakfast this morning and seems almost back to normal :D. He's much brighter than he was.

I am annoyed that I didn't get a painkiller home for him, but he did get a painkiller injection at the vet.

He was to go back if there wasn't a big improvement, but so far I am happy with how he is :D.
