  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rocking bunny?!

tanya_306

Alpha Buck
I went to my sisters earlier and her bunny seemed to be swaying from side to side. She has recently bought him a two storey cage (5 foot) and thought he did it because he didn't like heights!!

She ushered him down the stairs and he continued to sway and almost rock. He is eating normally and also pooping. Any idea what could be wrong with him?

He hasn't done this before.

Thanks

Tanya

Is he a REW? (Red Eyed White) or could he be partially sighted?

Rocking can also indicate pain, but REW's and partially blind buns scan the room, and seem to sway from side to side.

If it could be pain then he needs to see a vet.

I would say left to right is likely to be scanning, forwards to backwards is likely to be something potentially more serious, such as breathing.

Posted at the same time. That was what i was trying to describe - side to side or forward to back - excellent way of identifying it... why didn't I think of that! :thumb:

Thank you.

He is a REW then!! He is going from side to side.

Not only to they sway gently from side to side but sometimes they look kind of 'out of it' as if suddenly high on mind bending drugs:lol::lol:

Its because the eyes are just not focussing at all.
