  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bun Neutered..worried about STASIS - HELP!

Just had Yoshi neutered yesterday. I'm worried, because he had statis when we first got him and it took him three trips to the vet to recover. Now, he's not really eating on his own...he will eat SOMETIMES if you give it to him, mostly grass. He did some weird little stuck together poos that were quite wet, like a few piles of them. I fed him this morning, and then left for a few hours, and when I got back, I really could not tell if he had gone at all (which isn't that great). I'm a bit worried - does anybody have any suggestions on what to do? I've called the vet and they are meant to be ringing me back in a few minutes. Advice from anybody with experience would be GREATLY appreciated ^^

bumping for Taylor.

Anyone? I'm no expert and don't overly enjoy giving health advice i'm not sure on.

Have the vets called back yet Taylor?

I had my buns neutered a couple weeks ago and Timmy didn't want to eat either. I had to 'force' him to eat hay and syringe feed. He began to eat by himself 4 days after his neuter and a couple days after that he was eating and drinking normally. I really don't have much advice though... My vet told me to syringe feed Timmy and if he wasn't eating by the next day to bring him in and they'd probably need to give him gut stimulants. He luckily began eating that night though.

What pain meds are you giving him? I think buprenorphine can cause side effects, like making them not want to eat.

If you are worried at all, then get him to the vets to be looked at. They go downhill so fast, so best bet it to get a vet's opinion.

He's doing pretty well now, thanks :D He would not take the syringe food, but he has been really into the Parsley, so we bought him two pots of it. He's since done quite a few pretty normal looking-ish poops, and doesn't seem to be going downhill, so as of now all is well!! :D
