  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxi how long before they are out of the woods?

New Kit
My bunny Splodge has Myxi, the vet said there is a good chance he will survive, I have pain killers and drugs for him, and he hasnt got any new signs in a week, he has a swollen ear which has calmed down, leaving a nasty solid lump, and a few others, and a big lump on his nose, none which are worse

how will I know when he is out of the woods, hes going stir crazy in the indoor hutch, and i cant let him run around the house as its a bit of a danger zone for bunnies, so have to take him to see people for a run around, i know he does not like being inside much and hes eating for england and being his normal self

so do you think it will be ok to put him in his hutch in the day and being him back inside at night

here is a picture of him

He is adorable!

The problem is that we are having cold nights at present so keeping him indoors is essential -

however buns can get very depressed indoors if they are not used to it (and if confined) so personally I would let him out for short time on warm days - but WATCH him while he is out as flies will be attracted to any slight weeping eyes or pus on nose etc,

This is my personal opinion and obviously depends on how well the bun is feeling and the weather - though my vet also agreed with me when I suggested it for my myxi buns on the past.

Thank you, he is so lovely

He has no weeping sores or anything, just very hard lumps

He went to my ex the other day to run in his kitchen for exercise, but was considering putting him out in the run in the morning (7.30 ish) before i go to work and putting him back in doors with the doors open when i get home at 6, and then shutting the doors allowing him to adjust to the temp change slowly

he has never liked being inside gets really upset, now hes getting better hes becoming more showy to remind me hes there
