Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can Rabbits get, ingrowing claws?

Odd question i know.

Just been cleaning the buns out and noticed on the inside of Biscuit's left (or is it right?) paw, he has a claw that appears to be 'bent' into itself?

Its very difficult to look as he's not a picky uppy bunny, but i'll try and look again later, but thought i'd ask the question...

Could be trip #2 of the week to the vets i guess...

Bumping...i knew there was a reason that i dont post in 'health' very often...nobody else looks! heh:wave:

A couple of my buns have really long dewclaws which curl right round almost to the point that they are in the foot. Unfortunately the quick is equally long so I can't trim them back much. I just check it regularly and trim back as much as I can each time giving the quick chance to receed a bit.

Sounds pretty normal Gray :) But its one to watch and trim pretty regularly to ensure that it doesn't cause problems.

Another vet visit then. Why can't he be as easy to hold as Ginger is?

He's not limping or showing it attention, its just the first time i've ever seen / heard of it!

Thanks for your quick responses guys :)

Do you cut his nails yourself? how often do you get them done/do them?

Vet did it for me when he was neutered, ~3.5 months ago. He's due it again now. Didnt charge me.

I can't cut his claws, he'd never sit still long enough :(

Ideally, especially for indoor bunnies, they need to be done every 4-6 weeks. Could you maybe do it with your OH? Or ask the vet nurse to teach you how to do it?

Okay, how bad do i feel now!

*goes to call the vet*

Nah, don't feel bad. Having bunnies is a learning curve, you're still learning. I suspect if Ginger is laid back and lets you do it it will build your confidence and you'll soon be able to do Biscuit's too.

Thanks :)

He's off to the vets tomorrow at 3:30pm to have them clipped and i'll ask them to show me :)

4-6 weeks  I just do mine when they feel scratchy. I don't think they would grow back enough in that time... although my run is on paving slabs.

To do mine I sit them on my lap and lift one foot up at a time. They're not picky-uppy buns either but as long as they have most of their feet on the ground (or my lap) they don't seem to mind.

Only one of my bunnies has this problem (Twinkle) it looks really bad as it curls in a complete circle.. I get it checked each time she is at the vets as I could never do it myself.
