Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Molting and Drinking a lot

Young Bun
Can anyone tell me please if it is normal for rabbits to drink a lot more than normal when they are molting. My 2 1/2 year old mini lop is drinking about 250ml of water each day which is considerably more than normal. He was examined by the vet last week during a check up and we mentioned that he was drinking more but the vet seemed to think it is fine. He is heavily molting at the moment and I wonder if this could be the reason. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm no expert but....

drinking a lot while molting is probably a good thing - flushes the intestines which can get blocked during a heavy molt as my bun did last month.

Keep an eye on the amount of poo he is doing - if they are smaller or stop all together take him to the vet urgently.

Hope all goes fine x
