  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mac & Albie booked in for their snips...

Sorry, I'm sure I'm repeating an existing thread, but I can't find... I've got Mac and Albie booked in to be neutered next Thursday, they'll be 16weeks next week.

I just realised, I don't really know what to expect!

The vet has said they'll just be in for the day - do I need to have them in the house when I bring them home, or will they be okay in their hutch outside? Do I need to give them extra food etc etc. Obviously I'll follow any advice given by the vet, but any advice from you guys gratefully received, or I'll be worrying about it all week!!

Thanks!

 I would keep the boys in overnight after their ops, they won't be able to regulate their body temperature after having a GA. They shouldn't need extra food but have their favourite treats available incase you need to temp them to eat. I would also ask the vets to provide you with home pain relief for them both.

I suggest you keep them with you inside for a while. That way you could have them observed easily. It would also be a bit dangerous outside at their state.
