My lot have their VHD vaccs once a year but my vet said that they are seeing some people not bother with them. I know some rescues only vaccs against mxy and advise to do vhd, just wondered what everyone does?

Those that vaccs is it once a year?

No currently- i have done in the past to my bunnies- and i'm going to update these before i move.

I'm in the process of updating all my mixi jabs, but i'm going to make sure that my vhd jabs get done shortly after.

Hopefully all this will be done before i leave this property :) xx

My vets didn't even recommend vhd at all.

Hi, I'm just back from the vets for Jenson's first jab, and he's all booked in for his VHD in two weeks. I'm completly paranoid about it and will feel better when he's had that one too.

I became a bunny owner for the first time a year ago and I had only heard of Myxi so I only had Pierre jabbed against that, also hes a house bun so I didn't think VHD would be a problem. Then I read more about it and found out that it can travel on human clothes and still reach him regardless of whether hes inside, so I had him vacc'd this year when his myxi was due. Touch wood he hasn't had any serious problems but I wish I was sensible and more knowledgable and had it sooner.

It wouldn't suprise me if the vets are just "advising". From reading various threads on here many vets don't even realise the full extent of side effects the VHD - Cylap injection brings. My vet certainly hadn't experienced problems with it and then I get Pierre home and he won't walk on one of his paws (because of the injection)
It really helps to be clued up in this bunny business :)

Before the VHD vaccine came in some of my buns would die as soon as the wood pigeons came in the garden, around about May time.As soon as the vaccine became available I would have the initial vaccine and never had a bun die of VHD since.

If I were you I'd give them a ring and check that they're happy to use Lapinject. Cylap is nasty stuff.

Thank you, I didn't know there are different types of VHD injection, I'll give them a ring. The vet is a rabbit specialist so I would assume he would give the best thing but I appriciate the heads up.

Yes. All my bunnies that are well enough are vaccinated. I think I would be ignorant not to and feel that VHD is actually a bigger group risk than myxi because it is catching rabbit to rabbit and so, so contagious and also lasts so long in the environment.

I've had mine on lapinject before, mine were fine with that. I do need to get my vhd upto date before i move.

Yes i dont understand how anyone would risk their bunnies health and not have them vaccinated without a valid reason.

The VHD jab I believe completely prevents them from catching it, please correct me if I'm wrong :)
