  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Muffin making clicking sounds

Muffin is making clicking sounds> i'm confused as on some sites it says this is a sign of happiness and on others a sign of pain! Not sure which it is?

I'm not very experienced but I've never heard a rabbit 'click' with happiness.

If I were you, I'd get your bun checked out by a vet. The only clicking sound I've heard is when liquid/water has been aspirated accidently.

If in doubt, get Muffin checked out.

Let us know how you get on

I've tried recording on my blackberry but you can't hear it on play back. It's like he's chattering his teeth quickly. He lifts his head as he does it.

A single 'click' is usually a sign of frustration or annoyance - my dutch does it ALL the time - at us, not his companion rabbit.

Soft teeth chattering/purring is a sign of pleasure/happiness/contentment

Loud teeth chattering/grinding is often a sign of pain.

I think it could be purring then. I called John our vet and he seems to agree and i've check muffin and he seems in no pain. Was just surprised as he's sometimes a grumpy so and so ;) I'll keep an eye on him. Thanks guys
