Got a Lovely Card in the Post ...

Rosie Rabbit

Mama Doe
... from Brigitte Lord, saying how sorry she was that we'd lost Benji, and that she knew how much we loved him and we were in her thoughts. It was a lovely handmade card with a mountain hare on the front. :)

For those who don't know, she didn't put Benji to sleep, but was treating him at the D1ck Vet Small Animal Hospital in Edinburgh.

I was so touched, especially as she had already phoned me last week to offer her condolences. She chatted for a while as well - she was interested in how Paddy was doing (absolutely fine!) and really took time to discuss everything.

It helps so much when you lose a bun if the professionals treat you with empathy and kindness. Our own vet who put Benji to sleep also was brilliant - so caring and kind. She offered us a bit of Benji's fur to take home, just as she had with Rosie last November.

It really does make such a difference doesn't it? The lock of hair is a really good idea, such a nice touch.

It's made a huge difference to me in the past knowing that the vets actually care and treating them as individual. I didn't get that with Scrappy (who was my whole world at the time) but when I'd lost Izzy who I'd only had 3 weeks the vet staff were brilliant with all the caring touches.

Brigitte Lord really does sound like she's in it for the animals, not the science of it etc, wonderful to know :love:

How lovely of her.

I'll never forget my last vet sending a card with a very long message in it after Dusty was put to sleep. It made me absolutely bawl! The message ended with him saying he was sodding off to another country, which must have been the effect me and the furries had on him!

Yes, it really does make a difference. :)

Sorry you didn't get that with Scrappy. :( The caring touches mean so much at a really upsetting time.

I've been so impressed with Brigitte - you know sometimes how it is with specialists in human medicine - their people skills can be severely lacking  but thankfully this has never been the case with the vets we've dealt with.

Aw  but also

I'm sure he didn't emigrate just because of you! ;)

She sounds like a very nice lady, and having heard her on Womans Hour last week, I get the impression that she just 'gets it' with rabbits. She understands totally why they are so very special.

I'm sure she's just a very understanding and animal loving human being.
