Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What age to neuter my bunnies?

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering what is the right age to get my bunnies neutered? I'll be getting a buck and a doe in 2 weeks time and they'll be 8 weeks old then... :?

If you get them from a rescue then they will already be done:D Otherwise I suppose you will have to keep them separated for quite a long time. It varies as does are usually done on weight and bucks are done when their testicles drop.

Find a very rabbit savvy vet, and ask them.

If you post on rabbit chat on here someone will be able to tell you where one is near you.

Toby was 14 weeks. I just got him checked each time he went for his injections at 11 and 13 weeks. They go on whether the testicles have dropped for bucks. For does, some vets seem to go on age- mostly 6 months, some vets go on weight. I had a doe done at 16 weeks.

I think it would be advisable to keep them seperate. Bucks remain fertile for a few weeks after the castration and the does can become pregnant at a very young age, so the only way to be sure you won't get an accidental litter is to keep them seperated until a minimum of 6 weeks after the bucks castration.

Does become very hormonal and if you rebond before the doe is spayed there is a good chance the bond will break down as she comes in to sexual maturity, or you will end up having to rebond after the doe's spay anyway.

If you are getting from a rescue they may take the rabbits back for bonding when they are ready. :D
