I have to rehome Lucy...can anyone help? We cant do this..

Hi all,

Please before I begin i feel awful enough without any 'i told you so's' etc....

Today I came back ffrom work and found fur everywhere in Noodle and Twiglets run. And pools of blood. They were getting along fine though. The neighbour said they had a 'disagreement' over a carrot.

Noodle is booked in for a spey next week and I believe the fight was fuelled by hormones as it was very out of character.

Noodle came off worse and I took her to the vets she had deep cuts but no stitches required and is now on pain killers and anti biotics.

So ... being as lucy had the indoor run already to bond to twig and noodle in the future, but now I have 6 rabbits and 4 of them are SINGLES!!!!

I tried twiglet with lucy but then twiglet trid to fight her, I intercepted and have a very deep cut on my finger....

Any way the long and short of it is now everything is going t*ts up. I think I have to rehome lucy as she is a 'solo bun'. She is very friendly with people, and would make an ideal house bunny and only chews her toys and leaves furniture alone...

Can anyone on this forum take her on? I will not be rehoming to any tom **** or harry and would idally love to keep her but bonding attempts are failing.

Lucy is an 11 / 12 month old show breed mini lop. She is neutered. Very playful but I believe will only ever make a solo bunny. I blame her lack of socialisation on her breeder. For breeding off her from an early age....

Please no attacks... Im in shock and just dont know what to do.

Im sorry to hear that - how sad for you and Lucy..

Do you think it will be poss to bond again once Noodle is spayed?? It will make all the difference! xx

Might there be anyone nearby who could help you with bonding? I don't mean to sound funny but if you are struggling with bonding your buns, it might be that someone more experienced could have more success, rather than assuming that it can't be done.

Regardless of whether it's at yours or somewhere else, I can't help but think it would be a terrible shame if Lucy was at this young age and stage given over to a life as a single bun for many more years without at least some real good opportunity to try bonding her somewhere else with someone more experienced. Plenty of buns from all sorts of traumatic circumstances and who have been single for years, bond happily with the right techniques, so it might just be that she needs a different pair of eyes and style of bonding.

I agree, great post. And I would get noodle spayed before you try any more bonding.

I really hope things work out for Lucy because she has been through an awful lot.

That would be good yes. Noodle is booked in for a spey next wednesday but until then she is in a tiny cage and we have no room for 4 single buns and a pair. Boarding could be an option for Lucy I guess but will have to get her vaccinated etc before then.

I will keep trying every possible avenue and yes once noodle is speyed in 2 weeks time I can try and find a rescue to bond them I guess but what do I do with them in the mean time.

Im totally stressed. My sisted is due to have her baby in fact she is OVERDUE and im on an intensive course at work so am in all day every day and whilst I try to be prepared for anything to happen... I never anticipated 4 singles.

I could try noodle with twiglet as they did get on fine after the fight but I cant risk another fight her injuries are bad..

I know, I just dont get her. The other buns all have accepted her etc but then (she is tiny in comparison) she starts trying to hump them and they attack her . She has NO CHANCE of being the dominant one but she wont give up....

does anyone have a puppy pen they could lend me for 2 weeks? that could be a start.... to top it all off following todays vet bill I am now also skint...

I hope that wont mean Lucy cant have her Myxo Vaccination. We are in the very high risk season now.

Over what time period has this gone on, and as a one off 'big bang' bonding or repeated introductions? That all sounds perfectly normal bonding behaviour, especially if a bun hasn't been neutered for that long. Which is why I suggest that I don't think it's fair to make the assumption at this stage that she should be rehomed as a single bun. Even if it is that she stands no chance of being the dominant bun in your household and you do have to rehome her, surely that simply means she needs to be paired with a submissive bun who will accept her dominance, not that she will never bond.

You have my sympathy, at one point last year I had 2 sick indoor singles in 4 ft dog cages, and 1 pair and 2 singles outside. Nightmare!!

But please perserver if you can, it would eventually work out in the end (no promises though!)

I have had to temp seperate my 6 today, as there seem to be 'issues', so by no means will a group be plain saling!

I completely agree with the comment of having them bonded by someone with a bit more experience/calmer nerves. Your buns do pick up on your nerves, as well as stress from other things.

I know we all say about mimimum requirements, however, sometime they can't be met on a temp basis, whilst things get sorted out, spays, healing, general quarentines, worming and a whole host of other things. Don't feel bad about that, you know what is wrong and work hard to make things better.

By the sounds of it I would be aiming at bonding pairs, then maybe into a group, all being well. This is where I skipped and with has went a bit wrong today.

Please don't write Lucy off as a single bun though, It took me three attempts to bond Cherry and Charlie. I was also brought two females, whos owners said they 'hated' each other but went off at the end of the weekend very happy in each others company.

I wonder if there is someone willing to short term foster, while everything is sorted out, if it is that back

thanks all,

im going to sleep on it now and see what I can come up with.

Will call vets tomorrow and see if I can bring the spey forward...

Then I will call some rescues to help with the bond when the spey is sorted.....

But what I will say is that I dont hold much hope any more for the Noodle / Twig / Lucy combination and I will try my hardest.

I didnt mean to rule out that she will ever be paired just that at the moment she seems to prefer to be a singleton

Thanks

At the moment lucy is in a dog run in the bathroom, Twiglet has the hutch and run, and Noodle is in a small cage in my bedroom. Earl is doing his usual free ranging of the house...

What a mess

Sometimes bunnies want to choose their own partners. I got Merlin to go with Frankie and Kassy but it didn't work out with Kassy so I just took him out and tried him with Wesley. They've been together ever since.

I can try her with Theo and Cleo but they have been together years and dont want to upset the apple cart....

Im tempted to just try the 5 of them !

If your really struggling, maybe a short term foster for 10 weeks or so until speys done ready and for bonding again?

So I must have misunderstood I thought you said you had 4 singles :? Was thinking of trying different combinations. Looking at the pics of Noodle I wouldn't personally try them two together again.
