  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Brown Patch in Ear

Hiya, I am looking for some advice. I noticed this morning that my one of my male bunnies who is 3 and neutered, has a small brown mark inside his left ear, its circular in shape and about 4-5 millimetres across. It looks like a brown birth mark, he doesnt mind me touch it, and he's not scratching at it etc, Ive not noticed it before, any ideas what it could be.

Have you tried wiping it with a damp cotton wool pad ?

Hiya, yeah I tried that straight away, but its still there, it hasnt grown at all, and fruitti doesnt appear bothered by it, it looks like a small birth mark, it isnt raised or anything, I mean could it be a birth mark, I jsut dont want to take him to the vets for the vet to think Im a nut.

Is he multi colored? Its just the skin under dark fur is darker and vice versa. Maybe if buns had hairy ears inside the fur would be darker:?

If there is no problem with it I would just mention it when he goes in for his jabs:)

Has he ever had an injury or bite to his ear? Apollo has a scar like this where another rabbit put a hole in his ear.
