Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gemma has a bald patch

Rhianna

Wise Old Thumper
I've just noticed that Gemma has a bald patch where her head meets her body. It's not completely bald but is very thin. It isn't red or infected at all and she is eating/drinking/pooping normally and chasing George around (they both seem very frisky at the moment).

Maybe she is moulting unevenly but it does look very weird. My own vet is on holiday until 2 October and the locum is allergic to bunnies. I'd take Gemma if she needed it but she seems perfectly OK - just looks a bit odd. I do have some mite treatment left over from Furby but can't see any mites. There is no dandruffy stuff at all.

Would I be a very bad Bunny Mummy if I left it to see what happens? Or should I take her to the vet?

One of my cats goes like this periodically and the vet said she over-grooms. The fur grows back and she is fine for a few months and then does it again. Maybe George is over-grooming Gemma?

Has she had a vaccination recently?

You say frisky, have you seen George mount her? If so it could have been where she's been "holding on" so to speak

It's not behind her ears its along the top of her back, underneath her head. She's not had a vaccination recently. Both George and Gemma keep mounting each other. Not sure what is up with them at the moment. It's not spring!!!! They seem very lively.

Dolly has the same when I 'rescued' her from the petshop, she was will a female who kept humping her all the time, it could be where George is pawing her when humping

I'm keeping an eye on Gemma but she seems fine. She is eating loads - probably more than usual - but both her and George seem more active at the moment. Her back does look really weird though. It doesn't seem tender when I touch it and isn't hot at all. She absolutely hates going in a carrier and going to the vets so I don't want to take her unnecessarily. George is fine - nothing wrong with his fur.

I will try and have another good look at Gemma later. She doesn't like being handled so it's not easy. I do wonder if George is over-grooming her as they both spend ages snuggled and grooming. I hope it's not that as poor George is likely to get blocked up with furballs.
