  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help on Metronizadol.

Another yes! Santa had it for her tooth-root related snuffles and it worked really well. The only time I knew her with a completely dry nose was when she had metronidazole. It works on anaerobic bacteria (i.e. those who don't use oxygen to multiply) so it is good for deep abscesses etc where the bacteria are likely to be anaerobic. It also kills clostridia, which is the main culprit of poorly bun tummies on antibiotics so it's pretty safe too. One of my favourites, when used in the right circumstances of course!

I have just tried given him Metronizadol with some honey ( crushed the tab) and he did not touch it :(
He has his metacam on apple which he loves do you think I can put the Metronizadol with his metacam and apple?? he may not notice it then.

The tabs dissolve well in water so I do that and administer it directly into Buns mouth via a syringe. Metacam tastes nicer than Metronidazole so its not surprising that your Bun will Metacam easily.

Yes that's what I did too. I sucked it up into a syringe with a little water and a drop of echinacea tincture. That was yummy too and Santa would take it without a problem. You just have to make sure you get all the sediment out of the syringe so you may need to add a little more liquid to get the last few bits out.

I have also had success by squishing it into a slice of banana for a very greedy bun!
