Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does moulting make bunnies feel under the weather?

Wise Old Thumper
A&B have both been acting a bit strange this morning. Usually they both wolf down their pellets and won't leave their bowls until they've been licked clean. This morning neither of them ate their pellets with much gusto. Blanxhe then hatched an escape attempt and just hid behind Leos hutch. When I want to grab her she really put up a fight which she never ever does. The usually fiesty puppy-esque Archie seemed a lot calmer and just sat there.

Both are moulting heavily, could this be something to do with it?

The only other thing I can think of is Yesterday I gave them so spinach, they've haf it before but I may of given them too much in hindsight?

Erm I wouldn't say there's any major difference. Maybe a tiny bit smaller but don't know if I'm being over critical. I've just had to leave for work so won't be back until 8.30. I've asked my parents to keep checking on them ...

I'm wondering this....Starbuck has had a bad moult for about a month now, the worst of it seems to be this week. He has been in the corner of the room (fairly unusually) for most of the PM. He seems a bit down in the dumps and not really moving at all.

He has pooed and eaten a little bit of hay, but otherwise he goes back to this particular corner. He hasnt eaten much of his pellets and he wasnt particularly tempted by a treat but did eat it eventually.

He can be like this sometimes - go off his food and seem a bit grumpy - but this long is unlike him - yet no signs of anything else untoward :(

I should just say that Starbuck is not a big eater at the best of times and can take all day over his pellets

Not sure what to think...
Sorry if I have hijacked thread...

Moulting is a big stress for a bun, so those prone to gut slow down will tend to get it, & go off their food. They need to increase their energy intake by 40% to moult too.

So yes they can be crabby. Mine knows he's under par physically & is more nervous of potential danger - predator attack.

You can help your buns by regular brushing. [A ferminator type comb is very good]. This helps to reduce the amount of fur they swallow.
