  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

She's had a little sneeze every now and again. Often just scoffing down hay I've noticed it. They had a check up at the vets on Thursday, the nurse said that her nose looked fine, no discharge. Her breathing is more audible than Bob's.

I am concerned their straw/hay is a bit dusty, could that do it? Or could she be getting snuffles?

Shall I whip her back to the vets next week? Concerned bunny mum!

Well its well worth getting rid of her bedding to see if it is that she could have an allergy towards it, what are you using? xx

barley straw. and meadow hay in their hay basket (they get orchard grass and readigrass too). what would be a nice warm alternative? they're outdoor buns and it's chilly at the moment!

Is the hay dusty? do you buy the ready packed stuff? sometimes hay can be dusty it could be that. xx

it did seem to be, got up my nose a bit. pesky stuff :(

it was just bagged up stuff from the pet shop.

I think I'm going to have to do that, even though I can't really afford very expensive stuff at the moment, any recommendations?

And no, no sawdust/wood chipping stuff.

Well ive recently been buying mine from the farm shop and i mix it with oxbow botanical and timothy, they also get excel forage, previous to that i used to buy a pack of pillow wad from the local pet shop it is always lovely and green but now i have guinea pigs ive gone to the farm, its been lovely and green and fresh from there but if it starts looking dusty or old i`ll revert back to pillow wad. xxxx
