Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Female bunny with bruised 'girlie bits'

I have another confusing issue with my little girl bunny, and hoping someone may have had similar experience.

A while ago we saw what we thought were dried spots of blood on her blanketed area, I thought she'd got sore hocks again but they looked fine. I put an extra layer of blanket down just incase (and shes now on childrens foam tiles which seems to have sorted her feet out nicely) and thought I'd just keep an eye on her. Few more spots, over the next few weeks but her feet looked fine and she was otherwise happy/eating/pooing/binkying etc.

Then I found a few drops of v dark brown liquid on one of the foam tiles, I got it up with a tissue and then decided that it was a few spots of v runny but v dark brown poo, and not blood from her feet! So off we go to the vets, he gives her a full MOT and can't find anything wrong with her. We decide to keep a close eye on her and attempt a urine sample.

I go back a week later as agreed with the vet (no urine sample though - how on earth do you get a urine sample from a bunny!!!) even though theres not been any more brown spots. This time the vet looks at her girlie bits, when he pushes on her so her vulva sticks out its really red and got blood on it. So now we are wondering if that is where this 'brown liquid' is coming from. The vet says it looks highly bruised but he's never seen anything like it before. He's a v bunny savvy vet and I've been using him for 12 years or so.

He is going to give some of his vet colleagues a call, and do some investigating, and I said I'd do the same.

Anyone any ideas? She's been spayed, so it can't be uterine cancer. She is eating well, and very happy in herself. She has a male friend but he is neutered and obviously nothing happens between them. She is definitely in charge, and does hump him sometimes - could she have injured herself?

I'm going back on a week for him to look at her bits again and to discuss whatever we both find out.

Btw we took a photo, will post it if anyone thinks it'll help explain the issue.

cheers
Bev

Could what looks like bruising, be her over cleaning the discharge and kind of giving herself a hickey?
Maybe she's got an infection in the stump of the uterus.
