  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

david the rabbit i rehomed last week is booked in to have the chop tomorrow. which i am really worried about as he doesn't seem that fussed about food so i'm worried it is going to be hard to get him eating after the op.
also will he had stitches like charlotte did? as she was a nightmare for pulling them out so if he is being stitched i will start making him a dress up to stop him gettin to them.
does neutring stop the spraying and digging or will he always do that?

If he isn't fussed about food I would mention that when booking him in and ensure the vet checks him over to see that he is fit for neutering first. I would also (assuming they go ahead) get them to have a good look in his mouth during the GA and to do any dental work that needs doing at the same time (it could well be a cause for not being too fussed about food in any case).

Yes neutering usually stops spraying and it may calm down digging a bit but it may not...rabbits live in burrows after all so it's a pretty natural thing for them to do. Again he may or may not have stitches, it depends on the preference of the vet, many just use glue with boys now :)
