  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Should I be concerned by this; Vid within

I've heard/seen rabbits do this when they're stressed. I've had the odd rabbit have a random hiccup when drifting off to sleep or chilling out.

There isnt any vocalisation with the hiccups, its more just the motion, Checkers is always really relaxed in the car as he has speant a lot of time travelling with me whilst he was still being fed milk, so I dont think that could be the cause, though I wont rule out the possibility :)

Its not a constant thing, hes done it maybe 3 times (that I have seen) and it lasts around 30 seconds or so, I will give the vet a call :)

I gave them a call and theyre not sure about what is happening either....so I am going to show them the video when I take him in for his vaccinations and see if they can shed some light on the situation, they said not to be too concerned unless it becomes a regular occurance, so fingers crossed its not going to be happening again in a hurry :)

Biscuit does this occasionally whilst sleeping, but never for that long, normally about 3-5 of them, then stops.

Think maybe a quick question of the vet as you say :)

That potentially looks like a silent sneezing fit to me. I would get bun to a vet to get checked over, it may be the start of an upper or lower respiratory infection.
