Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Are they really eating it or are they just ripping it up and moving it around? Do they have a run attached to their hutch and/or plenty of toys? They might be doing it because they are bored - dwarf lops are very boisterous! I don't know about you but I've just had a new yellow pages delivered - as long as they don't start eating lots of it, give them the old copy to rip up and destroy, they'll love that!

I would recommend removing the sawdust rather than the newspaper. While it is nice and absorbent it stands a high chance of getting into their eyes and causing a lot of irritation. Most people here either just use newspaper and hay (changed regularly, obviously) or a horse bedding - something like megazorb, eazibed or hemcore - there are also others that are suitable depending on what you can get hold of. I assume they are youngsters? When they are old enough to neuter you will probably find that they use just one part of the hutch as a toilet and you can put a litter tray there, that will make life a lot easier! They may even do it now, but they are more likely to poo and wee everywhere when they are youngsters - but might be worth a try!

On a side note - have you had their sexes checked? (just in case they haven't been neutered - they breed very young!)

hi! be careful they dont eat too much of it as paper printers have changed the ink.. i cant remember to what but i found out its not as sterile as it used to be. our old vet said that you could use papers that were 24 hrs old or more as bedding etc when your pet was ill.
