Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snotty nose and sneezing

Mad Bunster

Mama Doe
Hi everyone
not been on forum in ages with moving house etc but need a quick bit of advice please.

On Tuesday maddie stopped eating - most unlike her. During the vets examination I noticed her nose was snotty and she was grunting when breathing. Vet said her chest is clear and suspected an URTI. So we have a course of baytril.

She sneezes maybe twice a day which always brings a long gooey bit of mucus out - from one side only. Once she sneezed out a piece of something I don't know what it was - approx 1mm by 8mm so i've assumed it was a foriegn object making her sneeze. But she's still sneezing now and sounds grungy when stressed ( getting her meds)!

If it was an infection would it be only one side effected?? Or does it sound like an irritation?

Thanks guys
ps she is eating just fine again!!

If it was a FB then the nasal passages are likely to be inflammed, even if the FB has now gone.

Is she on an anti-inflammatory ?

Hi Jane
thanks for replying

she's not on any anti-inflams no just the baytril. I can get her on some though.

Would an infection more likely effect both nostrils. I'm praying it's not an infection poor Mads has enough to deal with!
