  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

weeping eyes from dental problems

How long would they take to clear up if caused through tooth problems (after the teeth have been fixed)? Would any other treatment be given for the eyes, or do they fix themselves?

And would all dental buns have weepy eyes?

My dental bun had weepy eyes until his teeth fell out at the vets- he now doesn't get them at all.

My other two buns with weepy eyes, one has spurs that need doing and the other is not known to have any dental problems. My other with dental issues is shadow who has mallocursion who has one weepy eye.

Medication isn't really resolving any of this. It may not be purely dental related in some cases however.

It was a few days after sunnys teeth fell out that his eyes were okay- but he had been on 2 lots of tiacil also.

Thats my experience- don't know if you can gleam any information from that. Sorry i couldn't help further.

It is likely to be the tooth roots that are causing the problem. If the crowns were burred down to almost gum level the weeping eyes might resolve for a while. But they are likely to recur as the crowns grow.

The only way to diagnose tooth root elongation is via skull radiographs.
