  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hi guys,

just wanted some advice, as you may have seen the other post, Cinnabun has had a surprise kit, (i didnt have a clue she was pregnant!) the kit was lovely and clean so she had obviously cleaned him/her up well. the only thing is he was in the middle of the hutch rather than the nest and she was ignoring him. i scented my hands with her then gently moved him into the nest box. she is still ignoring him, is this normal? and if i have to, how long should i leave it before intervening?

thanks!

I've never had baby bunnies but from reading the forum I've learnt a little bit. :) Mummy bunnies don't spend a lot of time with their babies - it's a natural thing, in the wild they'd stay away from their nests so they don't attract predators and unwanted attention.

The baby looked pretty podgey in your photo's so hopefully he/she has been fed. I think shallow tums and wrinkley skin are signs that she's not feeding the baby. I'd give Mummy bun an extra load of hay and bedding as one baby is more likely to get a chill than a whole nest full. Are they outside?

I don't think I can really offer any more advice but no doubt someone else will be able to

thanks for your advice! that has put my mind at ease a bit! :)

No problem :) Hopefully someone else will have some better advice than mine though!

I hope your little one will be ok, he/she certainly looks very very cute!

Dare I ask if you've thought of any names?! ;)
