  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poor bun- 1kg weight loss

clairen

Warren Scout
My male bun has lost 1kg in weight these past 2 weeks while we were away on holiday. Before we left he had lost a very small amount but was otherwise ok, eating, drinking, pooing normally, marginally less active than usual. He's still eating, drinking, stools normal and plentiful but is hunched over and wet underneath. Straight to vet who is running a host of bloods and I have had to seperate him from his partner overnight to get a urine sample (they can still see each other). Teeth are fine, no temperature. Vaccines up to date, regularly wormed. Any thoughts please?

Poor lad

I'd guess at possibly a Bladder and/or Kidney problem. Or maybe a Liver problem.

Is he drinking more than normal ?

Does he have sore hocks ?

How active is he ?

He's drinking a fair bit but always has. Between the pair of them they usually drink 3/4 of a large bottle / day. He hops up to his food but is otherwise quiet and a bit hunched, looks very sorry for himself, eyes partly shut. He's never been the most active of rabbits but this deterioration is very obvious. Hocks ok at moment but I'll keep a close eye. His partner has not left his side, constantly washing him. Am very sad I've had to seperate them to get a urine. Wet bottom and hind legs is very new and worrying. I've got a very bad feeling about this.

Is he on any meds now ? Especially pain relief.
