Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi All,

Well yesterday morning I was trimming my hair out on the balcony and I left the door open not thinking - once I was finished I looked down and to my horror realised that Poko was eating my hair clippings! Literally scoffing it down!

I am not sure how much she may have eaten but she still seems to be pooing fine today and I have noticed that some of her poo's are stuck together by strands of hair...
I am now wondering if maybe I should have taken her to the vet straight away, could this cause a bad blockage? Or is this something that will just pass through her system?

How long is your hair?

There is very little a vet can do to be honest unless an obstruction occurs. The best thing you can do is give bunny PLENTY of fibre - hay/grass/dandelions/bramble leaves etc and plenty of fluids - water offered in bowl/soaking wet leaves/greens/herbs. The best way to pass any fur/hair is through increasing gut hydration and motility. Fibre and fluids will do this.

Keep an eye on the droppings, if they become small, pale and very hard and/or bun goes off their food then you will need to see the vet. I'm sure everything will be ok. :)
