  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Maybe Going Thin

Heyy, I think my rabbit maybe going thin! He is 4 years old and I've noiced that he looks alot thinner than he was. Hes eating the same amount of food everyday and always finshes it. When I picked him u today he felt alot lighter. Hes also weeing alot, I'm not sure whats going on!

I think it would be best to take him to the vet:)
I hope its nothing serious:)

From how you describe it (i'm not an expert) but I think it might be worms (it might not), they would live in his stomach and they would eat his food meaning that he wouldn't get enough food himself. This is very simple to treat though and nothing to worry about, my Walnut had worms a few weeks back and its all been treated now. All they need is a 9 day course of panacur. But check with your vet about what it is first as i'm just guessing from what you said and don't want to get it wrong:S
Like hurricanhoney said though gettin him checked out by a vet is the best solution:)

Yes I agree with the others, he needs to get to the vet as soon as possible. As well as the things mentioned above it could also indicate an underlying infection. There are so many things it could be that it's definitely to get him to the vets for a really good check over. Hope your little chap is ok x

Well hes been checked out by the vet, and theres no signs of anything bad. The vet said hes fit & heathly so that worry is over Fewww! :D

Might be an idea to get into the habit of weighing your bun once a week. That way you can keep an eye on his weight in future.

Does your bun live outside? Perhaps hes burning up more calories during the colder nights to keep warm? Maybe give him a little more food during the winter months for extra body fat. :)

Hope he puts on weight soon!
