Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wet Hocks....Possibly sore...

Livi

Alpha Buck
Pip was spayed on Monday and is currently living indoors, she will go back out tomorrow morning (want to scrub & re do her hutch before she goes back in). She has been indoors in a large dog cage, but isnt really using her tray properly (which is understandable as its all new & very different to her usual tray etc - and she hasnt got hay in her tray - like in her hutch, as i dont want to aggrevate the wound).

The crate is lined with vet bed and her litter tray is lined with a puppy training pad, she does wee in the tray but I have also found wet patches on the underside of the vet bed where she wees on that too.

Generally the vet bed stays nice & dry on top and is fine, however when I got back home on my lunch break I noticed her hocks were quite yellow and wet, the skin looked pinkish/possibly reddish - like it was beginning to become irritated. The vet bed was put in yesterday morning, and I generally have been leaving it 2 days as the topside does stay dry....

Anyway so I changed her vet bed & gave her a quick clean out. Hoping she dries off and can clean herself a bit. Is there anything I can do to help her clean her legs and get them back to normal. I dont thing its actually properly sore, but I just want to take precautions...this hasnt happened at all since Monday, first time I have noticed it - legs have been nice & dry all the other time... xxx

I've never had this problem before, but I think bathing her legs with salt water wouldn't hurt, and I'm sure other people have mentioned using Sudocrem for sore hocks  correct me if I'm wrong though!!

I know Ruby lay in her pee for ages after her spay  silly buns
