  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

my rabbit blackie makes a snorting noise when he runs up and down
could this be a birth defect in his nose he sounds ok till he gets excited
he sounds like hes trying to say something :?

no his been like that since he was little his about 10 months old i just thought
id ask see if anyone else had simler

Aww he is chatting to you! They sometimes do this when they are feeling 'frisky' and will run in circles around their 'mate' to say 'I love you!'

Mine makes soft little noises when he's playing too. When he gets really excited it sounds more like a quack:shock: He makes 1 soft noise when he comes into the room where I am as if to say "Hi".
Some people say they're feeling sexy when they do it, but mine's just happy & energetic.

Tippex Porkychicken quacks too, when she has managed to sneak behind the sofa (it's the most desirable place in the house apparently :) )

Mine do this too - sort of a snorting snoring noise! Soze does it when hes 'sleeping' and im sweeping up round his litter box (which he sleeps in) then he grunts and opens his eyes and butts me with his nose, or chews the edge of his box (Which means go away mum, im sleeping!) one of his sisters also does this if im brushing her siblings - again a sort of "Oi! Leave him alone!". They bounce round my feet when im feeding them and do it too - excited!

I think they do huff in their sleep sometimes too - Ive seen ours flop over to sleep and 'huff'. They 'honk' (which is a really funny noise!) as well, which appears to mean 'oi' stop that' / move / feed me / go away / fuss me etc!

They seem to have several noises for "OI!" in various tones!

Biscuit used to 'honk' and circle my legs all the time. Then he was neutered and only does it occasionally now, i find it quite flattering, is that wrong?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Peaches does it when there's food around - she gets excited and starts making the snuffly grunty noise, a bit like a dog does
