  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Back legs losing their "spring"

kerry-123

Scooch's back legs seemed to have lost their spring a little bit, she doesn't hop as how will I describe it...as jumpy as before? They kind of go a bit slower now when she walks anyone any ideas? Or am I just paranoid?

How old is she? Could it just be age related. I'm guessing in my older years I'll hardly be a spring chicken, I have problems now and I'm only 20

Lol she's only two (and had a litter a year ago) if that's important in anyway. Dw it was unplanned pregnancy- wrongly sexed

I'd get the Vet to check her over. If she has hind leg weakness then there are various possible causes...eg a spinal problem, an injury, EC.

Without actually examining her it's impossible to say if there is anything to worry about or not.

Good luck :)

Thanks Jane, and just so everyone knows she's in a big 6 foot hutch with an attached run so I doubt it's from lack of being able to move around! I'll get her a wee check over on Friday I hope she's okay :(

Could you get her to the Vet before Friday ? *If* there is a problem the sooner it is identified and treated the better.

Just a wee update, Scooch was taken to the vets on Thursday and he said she might have a parasite. He did say however that her right leg had less muscle mass than her left :( she is currently on panacur and metacam for 9 days fingers crossed this makes her okay. If not she's up for x-rays :(
