Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

weight loss but still eating?

a couple of my bunnies appear to have lost weight yet they are still eating heaps of food and all okay with their toilet habits. they are around 5-6 years old. any suggestions regarding the weight loss?

Some of my buns loose weight in the Summer but eat normally.Sorry for not being much help,I hope they are Ok

I would get them checked over by your Vet. There are numerous possible causes for unexplained weightloss and a thorough physical examination, including teeth is always a good place to start.

Are they drinking and weeing more than usual ?

As Jane says, best to get them checked out by the vet.

One of mine gets weighed regularly because he lost weight earlier this year but his weight is now maintained.

thanks, will get them checked at the vets! they have a note of their weights anyway so it will be helpful to have them weighed and see if they have actually lost anything.

One of mine - Sue - has lost weight recently but is still eating lots. My vet checked her teeth which are fine and has given me some worming paste for her. When the course is finished I am going to take her back to be weighed again. I am just hoping she hasn't lost any more.

Not wanting to worry you (but to be informed) Hector started out like this, and he had liver problems. He drank gallons too.

Hope they're alright!
