Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does anyone do reiki or other complementary therapies on their animals?

Just curious,

I practice reiki myself and have found it very calming for my rabbits and my cats when they are ill or just need abit of extra nurturing.

Does anyone practice any other modalities of alternative healing or reiki here?

If you could share your experiences that would be great thankyou :)

I personally have found all my animals i've been medicating recently to respond much better to having baytril if i practice reiki on them before to settle them.

Thanks
Ambience xx

I've used reflexology, massage & aromatherapy in combination with traditional treatments for foster cats with cat flu.
Have found that this has helped with appetite stimulation & decongestion of URT.

I've used Aromatherapy Lavender Essential oil on my rabbit when she had E.C., it really helped to calm her down and make her feel more relaxed when I had to give her medication etc.

My mum is an Aromatherapist so she was able to give me the proper instructions. I would recommend if anyone was going to use herbal treatments or aromatherapy on their animals they should always consult someone in that field first as sometimes animals (and humans too) can have bad reactions.

I use reiki on my fur family if I feel they would benefit from it. Sometimes they move away and sometimes they soak it up. It does seem to calm them.

I don't know any other therapies but aromatherapy sounds good.

Muppet had about 8 or 9 acupuncture treatments for pain relief to help with his spondylosis (after a big steroid injection), they gave him a great boost. (Pictures and stories in the Your Stories and Photos section on here.)

Animal acupuncture can only be administered by registered vet (thank god): www.abva.co.uk.

Hi Ambience

Yes I have used Reiki on my rabbits for many years. When they are in need of a boost or simply a chill out they lap it up. I also use Reiki Healing professionally with animals & have had many a happy animal post-treatment.

I also use Flower Essences with my current rabbit Dylan which he responds really well to.

Complementary therapies definately have a place in helping our pets but it is never intended to replace Veterinary care but to work alongside it x

I do massage on some of the nervous and special needs buns as I bought Chandra Moira Beal's book 'The Relaxed Rabbit' and the CD. It's very good.
