Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Minnie's excessive drinking.

MPHF

Alpha Buck
We rescued Minnie in November 2009 with terrible tooth root problems and abscesses. She has been having Convenia injections, firstly every five days then weekly and now every ten days. She has also had daily Metacam, 2 or 3 drops.

We have noticed she is drinking a lot more. Yesterday she drank a bowl and a half. Also when she went in her litter tray last night she kind of shook her back end while weeing. We have seen her do this a few times now.

We suspect it's her kidneys due to the Metacam but she will be booked in for a vet appointment on Monday.

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be great. :)

Oh no not Minnie Moo! :(

Have you noticed any calcium deposits in her wee or sludge? I'm wondering if the shaking is pain on urination? Could be a UTI, stones or as you say kidney related with the symptoms of excessive thirst. Sometimes buns with sore mouths drink alot to numb pain, has her urine output increased?

2-3 drops of metacam isn't a huge amount so I would be surprised if this alone had affected her kidneys and it wasn't a combination of all her drug therapy? Nino has a great deal more metacam than that each day and his kidney and liver function is so far fine. However, every bun is different and has different tolerance levels I guess, just like us humans.
Hope you get some positive news from the vet and that Minnie Moo feels better soon x

Thanks Vicky.

We haven't noticed any calcium deposits or sludge in her urine. Her urine output doesn't seem any more either.

Our first thought from the shaking was pain.

We don't know what meds she has had before but here she's just had Metacam and Convenia.

Minnie went to the vets last night. He was very pleased with how she is doing and her bony lump on her right hand cheek hasn't got any bigger. :D
She has lost a bit of weight but we have cut down her pellets and increased her hay. He said it probably is her kidneys but he said what we believe which is it's best for her to have a shorter pain free life span rather than a long painful one. We are not going to do any further tests and just carry on how we are with the Metacam.
