  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Whats the difference between a Probiotic & Critical care?

tdsouza

Warren Scout
I used Avipro (probiotic) during Hopper & Marshmallow's bond as it was recommended to use during stressful times in their lives and I didn't want to take any chance with Stasis when they came home.

While reading the different posts, I have noticed people are using Critical Care when their bunny is ill so I wondered what the diffence between them was?

Thanks

I would imagine that as critical care is more of a assisted feeding forumula it has additional nutritional value that a pribiotic alone doesn't have. Ie it will have fibre etc in it aswell.

My vet gave me critical care for Peter after his op. It was to be syringe fed and the vet said it would get his digestive tract moving again. Peter hated it, so I ended up feeding him lots of dandelions and grass instead! ;)

Just to make sure I have this right:

Probiotic is to help have the right bacteria, during times of stress/injury,
Critical care is like a liquid feed which helps get things moving again during stasis or illness.

So is both a good thing to always have?
