Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My neighbour has just approached me about her friends rabbit, which has a lump in the throat area.

The woman has had the bun to the vet, but is still really worried about what it could be. I have given advice on diet as she has just been feeding pellets, but don't know any causes of black poo.

The bun wasn't eating for a couple of days, but is eating a little now. Could that be the cause?

lets addess diet first,,(poor)--pellets are a digestible fiber which in a small portion--is for nutritional needs,,but the main staple is non digestible fiber or grasses and water--to keep the teeth naturally ground down and the gi tract moving properly.//.the lump requires attention from an exotic specialist/radiogragh will determine course of action--perhaps surgery for removal and penicillin-G-for the body while healing,,here is a link to better explain the problems http://www.medirabbit.com ,,access their safe/toxic plant lists too to know what is about that can be fed to the rabbit-((due to myxi-it is advised to ask an exotic dvm if you can safely feed weeds to the rabbit))...sincerely james waller:wave:

Twinkle's poop was black and small when she was coming out of stasis... she was mainly eating veggies/grass/pellets at the time... it has got better as she has eaten more hay as she has got better.

Thought the black poo would be to do with her not eating, but thought I should check.

Will be giving her advice about diet, and she is attending a vet about treatment. She's going to the same place I go so I can recommend the best one to see.

Glad you are helping this bunny.

Thanks, I'm not doing much though. The woman just needs a bit extra info. I think she needs most help with diet. Just hoping the lump isn't anything serious.
