Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is she Pregnant?

New Kit
Hello

We have just got a new bunny from a girl who does a bit of "rabbit rescueing" from people who don't want them. So this little bunnies history is somewhat unknown! I would say she is about a year old.
She has settled in well and is very friendly but a little funny about having her tummy touched. She just shoots off if you try and touch it. We discussed this with the vet when we took her for her myxi injection and he suggested she may be pregnant.
Are there any signs that would be a tell tale sign - she's not nest building yet or plucking herself but her nipples do seem to stick out a little more than is normal.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I just want to give her the best chance if she is pregnant.

thanks in advance

Cx

 Do you know how long she was at the rescue before you brought her home? If it was over a month then hopefully she won't be pregnant as that would mean she got pregnant while at the rescue!

Did your vet give her the myxo jab? I'm a bit surprised at what you've said as the datasheet says that the vaccine should not be given to pregnant does. Did the vet have a good feel? Did he give her a full examination including teeth, feeling for food passing through her system or for any other lumps, bumps or pain around her guts?

I wouldn't think that you would be able to tell from her nipples whether she is pregnant, even vets can find it hard to detect a pregnancy from having a good feel around the belly so it won't be possible to pick it up from something so simple.

I would recommend that you book her in to be spayed (although I would make sure that your vet is competent at rabbit spays, does them regularly and has good success rates, otherwise find another vet!) as uterine cancer is very common in adult female rabbits :(
