  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How do you check bottoms?

Stupid question but i am finding this hard.My bun prefers to be stroked while on the floor so if i pick her up she struggles.I have tried just lifting her tail when she is on the floor but she just runs off. This is really easy with my guinea pigs, just pick them up and turn them round.I know its important so how is the best way to do it?:rabbit2:

My two girl rabbits hate being picked up but as soon as I turn them onto their backs and cradle them like babies they are fine. Its then easy to check their bottoms!

Goodluck.

Yes i would tend to cradle my buns if they were needing to be checked. I don't pick them up ordinarily as they don't like it, but if i have too , that is the way i do it. I even sometimes clip nails in this position.

I do that too - I also have a good feel around the area. My previous rabbit (who wasn't very mobile due to arthritis) occassionally had a few clusters of eggs across his back and I often found these through touch rather than sight because they were always very well hidden.
