  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I am getting 2 baby french lops in 12 days time, and trying to get organised, hutch is being made by a joiner, so i can get a nice big hutch ( will eventually move them to a shed when they are full grown) and need a list of stuff that is essential for them.
I have kept a lionhead bun last year who i adopted but he had bad tooth problems and died before the vet could work out what was wrong:( bearing in mind he had a ga to burr his teeth)
But any help is much appreciated, I live near a great bunnie mummy Claireb1
but i could do with a list to tick off
I am going to fed them science selectives, and obviously hay. I understand to keep them off the veggies for a while, what age is best to introduce veg and fresh grass, they can graze on in their run?
any French lop savvys out their pls get in touch:wave:

How old are they??

i didnt let Cinnamon and Nutmeg have veg until they were 2 months and 2 weeks old....kept them on pellets and hay until then

slowly introduce different types of veggies, small amounts, bit by bit......same with grass...dont give to much at a time

Essential stuff i have:
1. Nail clippers
2.Panacur-(Dewormer)---talk to your vet
3.brush
4.Pellets
5.Hay
6.Critical Care-I got this from the vet when the buns had colic

Aw Cinnamon and Nutmeg are sooo cute! do bunnies like towels by the way? as your 2 are pictured with towels around them! LOL
there is sooo much to think of for this forst aid kit, i cannot afford to buy everything now but will make sure i have some cotton wool, panacur, fibreplex, and the other priority items and will build it up from there.
Is it best to buy the scissor type nail clippers or the guilitine type. Wilko sell them at the mo for £2,99.
what size litter try do i need for the baby buns, they are still small so shall i buy small ones?

thanks for this list, can i ask what would i need cammomile te and peppermint for. and gripe water?
is there anything i need to buy as priority, what will i not be able to manage without?

when would i use Panacur, if they had worms or as a precautionary measure like a cat or dog? is the syringe size okay at vets online?

Mosts vets recommend Panacuring your rabbits between 2 - 4 times a year for 9 days at a time as a preventative measure but not everyone agrees.

Also make sure you have some Corn Flour / Starch as this is good for to stop bleeding, especially if you trim the nail too short :?
