Vibes needed for Sora U/D She's going to be OK! :D

My girl is poorly with tummy problems  we were at the emergency vet at midnight - 1am this morning because she suddenly started acting oddly, refused pellets/treats and increasingly pressing her tummy to the floor.

I know she had eaten more than her usual amount of pellets earlier in the day but when the vet examined her, she said she felt empty. I have been trying her with critical care and syringing water and while she shows an interest in the smell of hay/food she hasn't yet eaten anything and drinking very little on her own accord. She keeps going to the litter tray but doing nothing. I'm trying her with tummy rubs and everything I can think of.

If anyone has any vibes to send Sora, both she and I would be very grateful :(

What medication has she had ?

Did she have any subcutaneous fluids ?

Did the Vet say what part of her GI tract felt 'empty' ?

Sorry for the delay in updating. I've been back to the vets this morning on the back of zero sleep and not eaten since 6pm yesterday so my head is a bit of a mess, not helping that I'm just back in work and getting an earful about being off this morning...

Thank you for the vibes, she still has not eaten anything :( A second vet has had a good feely-poke and also said that she felt empty with no signs of a blockage or impaction (sorry Jane I did not see your post before I left, I would have asked for specific detail over where exactly it was empty) She has had another dose of painkiller and gut stimulant (not Zantac, the other one metaclorp-something). She had her temperature taken (36.7) which was on the low side. She is also on baytril twice a day as a precaution for any potential infection lurking. There has been no change in her weight. She did not have any fluuids given by the vet today, though she has drunk a little on her own during the night and I have also syringe fed some water to keep her hydrated.

Her back teeth could do with being done as they are a bit long, but there were no signs of sores on the cheeks or tongue to indicate pain or discomfort eating. There is the high probability of a dental and further examination needed to see if it's her teeth causing it, however the vets want to try get her over the tummy problems first before putting her through a dental or teeth xray.

Ultimately I have to plod along with critical care until tomorrow morning, where she has an early appointment to re-assess the situation and see how she is.

Oh no:(:( I'm so sorry to hear little Sora is poorly. Sending loads of get well vibes your way, really hope she picks up and starts to eat soon xxx

Well, what we've been feeding her has been coming out in the form of very small poos, but she is still not eating on her own or showing any interest in food  I am starting to think we may be loosing her

After seeing a USELESS vet this morning :censored: (no idea who she is, the vets I normally see at my practice are very good with rabbits, this one is either new or a locum covering holidays) one of the permanent vet nurses who actually seemed to know her rabbit stuff suggested that Sora be referred to Bristol University as they have rabbit specialists in on wednesdays, and hooked me up with an IV fluid drip for the hour long drive.

I have left Sora in the hands of Richard there, who had a feel and said that her stomach felt full (gas, food, or both) a potential mass after the stomach, and then as he moved towards the lower abdomen it felt empty. With her teeth, he agreed with what my emergency vet said, while they're not great and likely never will be, they're not causing her any ulcers or mouth pain.

She is now on a wider variety of various drugs and will be spending today undergoing abdomen ultrasounds, xrays of both the abdomen and skull for teeth roots, bloods, and will be kept on fluids, while they try and find the cause of the stasis. I am afraid of what they might find since nothing is going to be great news... but I just keep having to tell myself that whatever they find there is no way back and we'll just have to deal with it. Some of the results will be back this afternoon, others will have to wait until later for the xray equipment to be freed up for use.

They are realistically expecting to keep her in until Friday (that's if she makes it). Smudge is not currently with her, but they will sort out with me taking him in either this evening or tomorrow. Work are not happy with me taking the time off without notice, but frankly I do not care.

oh no:( i'm sorry to hear this. sounds like she's with some great vets now who will hopefully be able to get her well quickly. such a worry for you:( (((hugs)))

Everything crossed for Sora's recovery, (& for more understanding from work).
Please let us know how she gets on.

Sending loads of vibes for Sora, hope its a simple and easy to treat result. I had to take emergency time off work a couple of times for my buns and just booked it as holiday, really hope they don't add to your stress.

Thinking of you xxx

I have just spoken to the vet... unfortunately it's not good news

Her bloods came back as slightly anemic which first suggested a liver problem. While there are problems with the GI tract (he suspects some ingested fur is slowly making it's way through her system) other tests point to a far more serious problem with the liver that's likely causing the stasis. It's basically a mass on the liver showing up on the scans and xrays that is likely causing her pain, which they suspect is part of the liver that has died off and become gangrene-y. They have only had 10, maybe 11 rabbits with this, and most cases have been discovered after death while doing post mortams. They can do an operation to try and locate and remove the mass, the chances of survival are already less than 50/50, but the longer they leave it the lower those chances will get.

My husband and I have decided to give her the chance and try the operation, if that's what the veterinary team there feel would be best for her. They are assembling the operating team tonight to see if she is stable enough to have the operation tonight, if not they will re-assess in the morning.

We are heartbroken

With RS she has the very best chance. Sending millions of vibes for Sora xx
