Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mucky bums

What can i do! Mae had a little bit of poo stuck to her fur the other day but I pulled it off and she cleaned it up, but this afternoon she's got poo staining up her tail (underneath) what can I do to help? I'm just swapping thier pellets over so it could be that, she occasionally does leave some speacial poos but hasn't caused a problem before

What pellets do you feed Mae on? The higher the fibre content the better. I use Science Selective which is 16% I think. I would cut down on the pellets and increase the amount of hay. Also if you are swapping over pellets it is better to do it very gradually. Hope this helps :)

I'm swapping her from p@h to excel, I'm doing it gradually but don't have enough of the p@h to do it right as my mum was feeding them and didn't let me know it was almost gone!

They get plenty of hay, their hutch is full :) just checked on her and she's cleaned herself up now but it can't keep happening :/

Hay is the answer. If you cut down on the pellets Mae will automatically eat more hay. See how you go and let me know how you get on.

Does Mae get an veggies? I feed a handful of pellets in the morning veg at night and hay all day x

They get prehaps 10 pellets each in the morning, either spring greens or herbs depending on what there is and extra veg as a treat. I'll try putting hay in thee run aswell so it's always there

It could also be that the excel is too rich for her.

Most of the rabbits that have mucky bums when they come in here but are being fed a pellet food, tend to be on Excel.

I'd keep an eye on her Georgie and see how she goes.
Might also be an idea to add some probiotic to the water for a few days.

Something like Avipro would be fine.

Don't know if you can get it in pet shops but you can get it in vets of the shelf and on line at some where like Vetark
