Male rabbit's frequest weeing

yesheadjon

New Kit
Good Morning,

I have a male rabbit (about 6 years old but difficult to say as he was a rescue rabbit). He used to wee in his litter tray and not all that often, however in the last month he has started doing small but frequent wee's wherever he happens to be standing!!! If we pick him up he often starts to shake his back legs and when we let him down he often does a bit of a wee. He is eating normally and seems fine in himself.

Can anyone offer advice on whether this is common (given his age) or possibly diet related? His eye is looking a little caked this morning but the frequent weeing has been going on for a few weeks.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

male rabbit frequent weeing--Hope you get some advice from others

Hope you get some advice from others. Sounds distressing. Sorry no experience with this problem. But our little male sometimes does a wee when we pick him up to give him his medications, which he doesn't like. Otherwise he wees to mark his territory or to court his mate when he's chasing round her. But neither of our bonded pair is really litter trained. They live outdoors in a very big Bungalow with attached conservatory and access to secure pen and grazing corral. He is more continent than she is-- she just pees anywhere. We have another male who always uses a chosen latrine in his enclosure, and when he comes in the house for a run around and cuddle, he pees once only and always in his litter tray. Good luck, Shebunkin

It could possibly be something such as a bladder infection. He may wee where he is because he's getting a sudden urgency so doesn't go to his tray. Have you noticed if he strains when he's weeing? Perhaps giving the indication he finds it painful to wee.

It would be worth having a vet check him over in case a course of antibiotics would help him, or of course any other treatment.

Thanks for the response (and to shebunkin). I think that a trip to the vet is in order then next week, although he does not seem to strain to wee. Better safe than sorry as they say.

Thanks again

Jon

A trip to the vet is very necessary. Is your bun drinking more than usual? Is there a white deposit in the wee = calcium sludge?
