Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone,
To cut a long story short, i have 2 house buns, Lilly lost her husbun and found a new boyfriend for 2 wks then she got EC & head tilt (we had to seperate them as she was thrashing with the headtilt and Ron was pushing her to get back on her feet-but was too rough- but thought he was helping)
When she got better (which our old vet told us to put her to sleep) we tried to put them back together, but Lil came off the worst as she didn't want to and chased him but she always ended up the worst with her being weak.
We tried several times and even the rescue place i help out at even tried.
Lil tried to get to Ron one night when we was out for 5 mins and stuck her nose in an inch gap to egg him on and he ripped her nose off, so ended up at the emergency vets on a saturday night. And then to top it off with all problems she also has staphylococcus which causes her to have sneezing fits.

ANYWAY..... now you know what a devil (but sooo sweet) she is, when she is having these sneezing fits she dribbles wee which is causing urine scalds and is blistering. Our vet has put her on INCURIN for incontinent dogs, i've looked into it but can't find anything about using it on rabbits.
Has any one else???

You wont as it isn't licensed for use in Rabbits. HOWEVER that dos NOT mean it is unsafe, few medications are licensed for Rabbits an the necessary research to get them licensed is costly for the Drug companies

I have known of a few Rabbits who have been prescribed a similar drug (also 'off license) with no adverse side effects.

I've used a drug called Propalin which has a same effect of tightening the sphincter muscles, but I think its a totally different drug...which doesn't really help you at all.

BTW I found a combination of Propalin and Baytril most effective in my rabbit Crunchie's case

Here is the NOAH compendium info:

N.B. it says not to use in animals with excessive thirst or excessive urination...I don't know if this applies to Lil?

Cheers!! I don't think i will be giving her next dose next week as she hasn't been herself alnight and only eaten a small ammount.

Hiya,
We've successfully used Propalin for Maddie for weeing problems with her getting very wet underneath. She was on Incurin for a day but had a funny reaction to it - she was really spaced out and I actually thought she was dead.

We went back on the Propalin, but eventually weaned her off it and her problem didn't return.

But I'm sure we had to give it every day - not sure the weekly dose is right if thats what you meant??

Yes, we were told half a tablet a week. She just sits with her face squashed against the wall wanting nothing to do with us, normally she is like a sticky boggie and can't do anything or go anywhere without her. Rang the vets and he said it could take a week to get it out of her system, i'm hoping it doesn't take that long, its been 3 days now! How long was your Maddie weird for?

We had Maddie on the daily dose of syrup so I think it would be a smaller dose than the tablet if that lasts a week? I literally gave her just the one dose she had that funny turn that night, and she had no more Insulin after that - and she was fine the next day.

I'd maybe ask your vet about trying the syrup instead (either propalin or insulin) - you only need a TINY dose of it. I think we were using 0.05mls, which is really easy to hide on a treat!

I used Incurin a few years ago for a doe with incontinence she used to have 1/2 a tablet a day on a shreddie never a problem giving them to her and the drug seem to do the trick.

Hope you can find someway of sorting her out.

Thanks mad bunster and rngpwelfare. sorry not replied, been on long shifts.
It took 6 days til she was back to her fruitcake self. I'm putting bepanthen on her sores (baby nappy cream) and her fur is growing back again. She is due for her myxi next month so i will enquire then. I don't want to stress her out again. I honestly thought i was going to lose her.
