  • Please Note - Medical Advice

    Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

    You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

    We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

    Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Handrearing Bunny-Teeth Mis-alligned?

I am currently handrearing a young rabbit, and his bottom teeth look to be growing a little bit crooked? I have never really looked closely at baby rabbit teeth so im not sure if its normal and I am just being over paranoid :p I am unable to get pics right now but will be able to in the morning. Does anyone have any pics of baby rabbit teeth that I can compare to?

I think pics would be really helpful. I have some youngish bunnies here (13 weeks old), I can get some pics of their teeth if that's of help to you.

This was the best I could do;

The tooth on the right is a little bit longer, and the left tooth looks like its pushing inwards a bit, I will try and get a better pic tonight when I have someone to help me hold him/take the photo

How old is he/she? Is he on solids yet? It's probably a bit early to tell if there is going to be a long term issue. Has there been any trauma involved that could have effect to jaw? It's unusual for teeth issues to display in babies.

Sometimes as their skull and head grow, the teeth can realign and not have a problem. I would think many things to chew on is vital. Lots of wood and such.

Doesn't look too bad- i have a bun with malocclusion and another who's teeth are misaligned too. Feed lots of hay and they should sort out themselves.

Well Checkers went to the vet today for a check up, and I asked about his teeth and the vet said it wasnt too much to be concerned about at the moment, but to definately keep an eye on him as he ages, so hopefully all will be fine
