  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My female rabbit is going through her normal molt process, but her ear's look 'chipped'? I don't know how to explain it, hence the pictures.
She's almost 2 and I've never seen this before.
She's acting normal, not lethargic, eating and drinking normal.
I just want to know if it's caused by mites or if it's part of the regular molting routine. There aren't any black spots in or around her ears, and they're not red. Please and thank you.

she does groom her ears, but not more than usual.
there are no other rabbit, but i do have a rat and a gerbil who's cages are close to one another.

The bits where they stick out more, if you gently encourage the fur, does it come out? Sandy went like that and it was just some fur was lose and some fur had already come out. When she had finished her moult, her ears were back to normal.

My Timmys ears have looked like this recently and hes also moulting quite heavily. When I teased the fur with my fingers it comes out so Im pretty sure its just part of he moult :)

Silly moth eaten buns

I rubbed her ears and the fur is coming out and looking more normal, thank you all! Dust Bunny thanks you as well
