bunnies and dogs?

Does anyone have a house rabbit and a dog?? Just thought i'd ask for future reference as I always thought I would get a small dog once I moved somewhere with a bit more outside space but now that I have Sooty (and i'm sure a bunny friend for him before then) I don't think that would be possible would it?

Sooty gets on great with my parents and grandparents dogs, and isn't phased by them at all, although I don't think I'd ever be comfortable enough to leave them unsupervised. Has anybody got any experience of this, or is having house bun's and a dog always a definate no-no?

hi there i have a house rabbit and a big golden retriever alan my rabbit want to make friends but ben the dog is a bit frightened but we think he is frightened of hurting alan he just sniffs him and walks off were as alan would happily lie with him, i if the dog is young and is bought up with small aminals he will be fine, i also have guinea pigs who ben has grown up with and he is fine with them xx

Hi i have 2 house buns and 2 dogs. One dog is never allowed near them as i know he would kill them. My other dog however is fine with them, but i'd never leave her unsupervised even though i trust her not to do anything i just couldnt be absolutly sure.

If you got a dog i'd get a young one so that it would learn that bunnies are friends not food :p I think a dog would be fine with bunnies, just like some dogs are fine with cats :)

If you ever left the house i'd just shut the dog in a seperate room just to be sure that nothing happened :)

Oscar used to be a house bun before he got better and a new wifey and moved outside, but he loved my dogs (all 3 of them) and he and Spike had a special connection that they still maintain out in the garden - Oscar always runs to greet Spike....

They would all have free roam whilst I was home, but at bedtime and when I was out then Oscar was safely behind a closed door, but I'm lucky in that I've had 6 dogs and never had a problem with any of them with rabbits, and none of my rabbits have a problem with the dogs - even the really timid ones.

Have had in the past. Used to have one house rabbit who free-ranged throughout the house with a German Shepherd and a Border Collie. They all got on great together. Always separated them at night and when I was out though. But I guess it depends on the dog - they'd have to be trained to leave the rabbit alone because its natural instinct could be to chase/injure. Having said that, one of my current collies would love nothing more than to stalk the buns all day but the other one has no interest whatsoever - not even if they run between her front legs  so it really does depend on the dog/bunny combination.

Having just recently lost both my bunnies to the next door neighbour's dog, who was apparently "good with rabbits and wouldn't cause any trouble" I would advise you never to trust a dog with a rabbit on its own. This also comes from experience of my own tibetan terrier, Frankie picking up Jasper, my second bun, when he got out into the garden. Frankie was regualrly socialised with the bunnies and GPs and actually didn't harm Jasper, but that was IMHO down to luck in that instance. Dogs can't be expected to know their own strength, so even when they are "playing" the consequences could be disastrous.

Hi, i have Ruby a 5 yr old cocker spaniel and Marley a frenchy house bun. When Ruby gets fed up of him hoppiting round her feet she just retreats out of his way to the couch!!! I don't leave them unattended together though because i would be lying if i said i trusted her 100%.. tbh she gets more aggitated with the cats....all 5 of them parading themselves around the house..
