Welli have just been told that i have to get Herbie home with a splint on. They said that i should keep Herbie & Inca separate in case she helps him pull off the bandage, but i dont think i am happy with that.

They also said that i had to confine Herbie to his cage....should i put Herbie & Inca together in the cage, or should i have Herbie in and Inca out?

HELP!!!!!!!!!

KarenM kept Alfie and Bubbles together in a crate together after Alfie broke his leg? Maybe you could pm her for more info?!

I would try keeping them together, but obviously watch them carefully and if she starts to become interested with the bandage you may have to consider seperating them and just allowing supervised visits. Might also be worth trying to cover the dressing with a baby sock :?

I would keep thenm both togther but allow Inca out for exercise for an hour or so through out the day.

When Bruce needed cage rest for 6 weeks I used to bring Prudence in to be with him for about 5 hours during the day so they could sleep together for a while and then put her back out in the aviary over night

Thanks, i don't think that Inca will bite his dressing as she never bothered when i put a sock on her when she had a sore foot. I will also put a baby sock on Herbie.

I can let Inca out when i am home, but put her in the cage when i am out.

Just feel bad that they are going to be in the cage, but then it is an XL dog crate, so still better than some bunnies have i suppose!

That sounds like a great idea. I am sure they will be fine ina large dog crate.

I had to keep Bruce in a 3 ft cage for 6 weeks, how bad did I feel. But it was cruel to be kind and it worked. His hip has never dislocated again :)

Poor Herbie, how did he manage that bless him?

As Boudicca said, Alfie was confined to a crate for around 6 wks earlier in the year (although Alfie would swear he was in there for at least a year!).

I would play it by ear as Liz said and just be prepared to split them if Inca shows too much interest in the bandage.

Bubbles was quite content to be with Alfie for the best part of the day/night, both in the crate together. Bubbles came out alone for a few hours every day, either in the garden or back outside in their kennel/run so that she could stretch her legs a bit. Putting them back together again was never a problem, so it *should* be even simpler in your case as they're both indoors and so will still be in sight of each other while Inca is having some exercise.

It does feel really mean, especially when they give you the sad eyes, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks for that. I am not looking forwards to seeing the wee babies all shut up in the cage.

At least when Inca is out Herbie can still see her, as you said.

I think it has been him jumping out of chris' arms.....wither that or jumping off the sofabed in their room, he does massive jumps!!! Oh i just hope it heals quickly!

Ikwym. And they'll probably let you know that you're being mean on a regular basis - I knew when Alfie was starting to feel a bit better as he started trashing the crate.

Just take each day as it comes. In the beginning, I wondered how I was ever going to keep them both confined for so long but time passes pretty quickly and, looking back, it didn't seem like they were indoors for 6 wks.

Just spoke to the specialist, Herbie has to get an operation.....he will probably go to the Royal Dik (wont let me type it) School in Edinburgh.

I am so nervous now.

Now i better speak to the boss for time off, which could be difficult!

Poor boy :( Is it his front or back foot? I have had two rabbits with that injury in their front foot, one came to me with an old injury, and the other jumped off something. They didn't need anything done, it just healed on its own. I was just told to give some metacam for a little while when Minstrel hurt his foot to manage any pain, Cookie's previous owner obviously didn't notice so he didn't get anything :( If it is the back foot then that is a bit more complicated so I could see why he would need further treatment.

Thats him home, waiting for an appointment at the vet school.
His bandage is huge, and he is dragging it behind him when he walks, is this right? I have attached some pics below.....he really is having trouble walking about with it.

He has eaten his veg, but just seems like the darned thing is annoying him already!

He is sitting on my knee just now getting petted. I have had to set up a dinner tray as a litter tray as he couldnt get his leg in the litter tray!

Poor Herbie :( The bandage does look huge and heavy but I guess its necessary to keep his leg still :?

Sending loads of vibes for him and you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Awww bless him. It's bound to be a bit cumbersome having that big old bandage on - presumably after the op he won't need a bandage & he'll probably cope much better. :)

Lol at The Royal Willy.:lol::lol:

Awe poor little fella :( he certainly won't be doing any more damage to it with that wrapped round it!!

He is staggering about the cage like a drunken bunny!

It's such a wee shame for the poor lad.

I really hope i get an appointment for his op quickly!
