Update - Herbie been for his Xray - Broken Metatarsal Bone - Help!

Kermit

Wise Old Thumper
Sorry, this will be a long post!

So Herbie hurt his toe/foot yesterday, i called the emergency vets and it was agreed that i would take him up to the vets today.

So at 8.30am i call for an appointment after my work.....receptionist says 'if his toe is broken he needs to be seen earlier than that - is there not someone else who could bring him up, if he needs an xray then he will have to be here early afternoon at the latest'

So thats fine, i arrange my gran to go and pick him up in a taxi and take him up. I phone the vets back and say....'can my gran drop him off, and i will pick him up when i come home from work' They say ' No, it has to be you or your partner that brings him up, we cant see him if it is your gran'

So i cancel gran....

Meanwhile Chris is on the way home from T in the Park, so i get a hold of him and my sister, and they say the will take him up, i call for an appointment, get 11.30, and ask if that is still time for an xray......receptionist says yes, thats fine.

Chris & Fiona get Herbie to the appointment, the Vet said that it isn't badly broken or anything, but feels a toe loose, so wants to xray......but he cant xray today as there is no space!!!!!!!!!!!! So he has to go back up at 8.30am tomorrow. Then the receptionist tells them that Herbie is to have no food from the night before!!!! Idiots!

I just called back irate. I mean, the receptionist speaks to me first thing like i am a bad mother, then i mess about arranging an early appt. for them to tell me to come back.

I now really have a sore head with it all.

So lets just hope that wee Herbie's toe ends up being ok after all the kefuffle!

Argh how annoying  Did the receptionist apologise to you atleast?? Id tell your vet tommorrow that shes telling people to fast rabbits, as we know how dangerous that is

Poor Herbie being shipped to and from again :( Hope his foot is feeling abit better. Is he limping?

Loads of vibes for him xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What a nightmare!!! Ive never heard anyone say that a rabbit shouldnt have food before an operation though???

It is a royal pain!

He is ok in the car at least, I always take Inca too, so she will be peeved

Well my Herbie is going in for his Xray today, so fingers and everything crossed that it is just a small issue that can mend it's self.

Hope the xray shows the all-clear. I find it surprising the vet nurse said no food. I know they say that for cats and dogs cos of throwing it back up during the anaesthetic but bunnies don't have that action.

Thanks for the vibes

I know, i am annoyed at the vet nurse! No food could send a rabbits tummy haywire.

I am going to complain when i am up there x

Herbie has broken his Metatarsal (sp?) bone in his foot. The vets have never seen this, so they have contacted Alistair Lawrie (specialist) and are waiting to hear back.

Has anyone had any dealings with this before?
