Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Dry bald flaky patches

Mattl

New Kit
I have 2 beautiful mini lop bunnies, one male and one female both neutered. A couple of days ago i noticed a bald patch on Sooty my male buns head, i put it down to the female pulling a bit of his fur out but im not so sure now. Today i had a closer look and where the bald patch is looks quite dry and scabby/flaky. On closer inspection i also found one on his back. See pictures below.

What could this be and how can i make him a healthy bunny again??

Hi

It sounds like your bunny may have mange caused by tiny mites, my bunnies have had this problem a few times. I recommend a trip to the vets where they will put a spot on medication on the back of the neck.

I have found it sometimes takes a couple of visits to the vet to get rid of it though.

I hope your bunny is better soon.
